1. Describe the major differences between Maslows need hierarchy and Alderfers ERG explanation of motivation. According to Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly, and Konopaske the Maslow’s need hierarchy depends on what people already have and then grows up hierarchically, when the Alderfer’s states that needs depends more on three factors: existence, relatedness and growth. Maslow’s needs are more of pyramid, going from the simplest needs to the more complex one to fulfill being from bottom to top: 1) Physiological 2) Safety and security 3) Belongingness, social and love 4) Esteem 5) Self Actualization As we stated before, Alderfer states that these are the only three needs, that people need to satisfy: 1) Existence 2)†¦show more content†¦But this is because it is her own personal need and goal. When a manager wants to set a goal to an employee, he has to make sure that the employee will be ready and be able to handle all of these factors: Goal – Specificity, Difficulty, Intensity, and Commitment. The goal setting can lead to undesirable outcomes when the goal is too difficult to achieve and that the wrong employee has been designated to fulfill this goal. If the competence, skills, and level of performance of the employee are not high enough to achieve the goal set by the company, then the outcome has high chances of not being good, or being even worse could harm the company. Also, some employees might become obsessed with the completion of the goal, and therefor stop doing anything else, and taking lateness in other tasks he might had to do. The job could also be too hard for the employee or too complicated to achieve, leading to self-underestimation of the employee and cause other problems. After centuries of evolution, the South African’s have found the wine industry to be very profitable. In Fact, South Africa is the 7th largest wine producer in the world (Giokos, 2016). This industry is so sturdy that during the recent recession while many South African’s have found themselves out of a job, the wine industry is touting that its exports have increased 5% in 2015 and were projecting even further growth in 2016 (Giokos, 2016). We will examine various aspects of the wine industry and conclude with an entry strategy into the market along with a potential business structure. Mike Veseth (2016) described the distribution of profits and loses of the South African wine industry with only 15% of the producers making strong profits. He broke out the rest of the market as follows: 49% making low and unsustainable profits, 6% breaking even which leaves 30% of th e companies losing money. The poem was translated in 1915 and was published as part of Cathay, Pounds collection. One can say this because in the sixth line she says they left without dislikes or suspicions (Pound 6). From this we can assume that they did not feel love for one another, she relates to their love as a plain and neutral relationship. Chinese traditions involved the father choosing his daughters husband. We can expect this to have happened in this poem leading us to believe that there are no real feelings of love. Since she got married with this man at fourteen, she was shy and timid. Pound conveys to us that there is no joy within her as she was authorized to be with him; she had no choice but to be with him so never looked back. Moreover, the poet refers to the womans husband as My Lord you, which indicates the husbands domineering attitude and demand for respect (Pound 7). Nevertheless, Pound softens this by placing a you after My Lord. This keeps the sentence from ending roughly, and also conveys the impression that the woman has accepted this fact. We also know that at the time she is writing she does love him. Perhaps if she had written the letter at fourteen years of age, she may have seen him simply as her Lord. After a year of marriage, the woman changes her thoughts and feelings towards her husband. She then believes that she loves him and will do so forever. Pound insists on forever leading us to the realization of the extent of her new love (Pound 13). When she turns sixteen, her husband leaves to work in a river with swirling eddies, mirroring her worry and fright. She interprets the monkeys noise as being of sorrow, again mirroring her grief. He did not want to leave her either as he left dragging his feet. At this point, Pound reverses his style, plunging into multiple levels of abstract images. Five months, maybe more, pass and the moss by the river has grown so deep that she cant even remove it. This image can be viewed as sorrow growing in her heart, a feeling strongly affecting her. She also sees the darkness of autumn and the signs that its coming brings, such as leaves falling in wind. The paired butterflies are fading color, just like the relationship with her lover is fading. The line Over the grass in the West garden; makes us doubt that her husband is still alive (Pound 24). Since the West is where the sun sets, it often symbolizes death. It may also simply show the end of their relationship.
